One of my favorite fashion trends from the 80's is the concept from a brand called UNITS - every piece was made of the same material with multiple color options in stripes and solids.  Basically, everything could be mixed, matched and worn in a multitude of ways...There was a tube that could be a skirt, a top, a belt or a dress...genius!

This concept is exactly what I need for my closet today: versatile pieces that can be configured into numerous outfits...is that too much to ask?  It's hard to find much info on UNITS but click HERE! for a few choice pictures contained in a top 10 list of 80's trends (I still love all of them).

Of course the designs would need to be updated but...SOMEONE PLEASE BRING BACK UNITS!!!

when in doubt, create your own...

I've been in dire need of a new (clean) mousepad for some time now but I've been looking in stores and online and have been left unfulfilled.  The giant office supply chains have the most unimaginative options on their shelves --- I wouldn't pay more than $1 for a boring ass, royal blue neoprene square!

Thus, I clicked my way over to CafePress and made my own...it arrived today and I'm super thrilled.  Clearly the design is a tad inspired by Missoni (hello! it's been on my brain) but the font I chose also gives it a Western, cowgirl vibe...I dig it!

Better than this piece of junk, yes?

I happen to know a famous makeup artist, known for her fabulous and expensive brushes, used to purchase paint brushes to customize for her cosmetic needs.  I have always been inspired by this, not only from a creative stance but also as a cost cutting measure.  Take a trip to your local artist's supply store to find inexpensive versions of standard makeup brushes.

A word of warning: if you need to cut the bristles to meet your needs use very sharp, precise scissors and only cut a little at a time until you've reached the desired shape/length.

On a recent foraging session for cute things, NWS came across a collection of badges, awards and wands that will be making appearances at our loved ones birthdays, anniversaries, and up coming what have yous...

Makingmemories.com's line, aptly named Bravissimo, has all the materials you need to make the special peeps in your life feel like heroes...and what's better than that??

There is a big selection of ready made medals and such but also on offer are all the components for you to make a unique ribbon or magic wand...and we always love custom (even if it's semi custom) over pre made...

NWS is going to use these in place of greeting cards going forward since most end up in the trash or shoved in a box.  These pretty little things can be displayed or even re used!

This is our first ribbon, of many to come...

(tiny card and envelope included on the back of the ribbon)

This beats any old greeting card any day!
