French Dressing...fonce

Skinny pants, printed blouses, ballet flats and scarves are the well known mainstays of the cool French girl uniform, with cropped leather jackets on cooler days. I was surprised to see just how many ladies were carrying Longchamp totes and after purchasing one of my own I now understand the popularity. They're roomy, lightweight and perfect for travel. I also noticed a surprising lack of jewelry and makeup while hair was typically worn long and loose. The overall look was cool and chic but not forced...very relaxed.

Fall Make Up Trends - I love Charity's quote about painting the barn...hilarious!  I'd love to say I leave the house looking super glam everyday but that just isn't the case.  When I don't put on my face (as my grandmother says) I opt for a luminizing moisturizer for a subtle glow...but I NEVER leave without sunglasses...NEVER!

Lip & Cheek Trends - I am so into a red lip this fall (and nearly every fall) but Tarte's Natural Lip Tint is my new favorite.  Stila Convertible Color compacts are must haves for me...I adore all the colors for both lips and cheeks (and in some cases eyes).

right now we're loving...

A few things (tangible goodies) NWS is grateful for in 2011, thus far:

* Apple TV - the device we never knew we needed...amazing

* eos lip balm - of the Sweet Mint variety, thank you!

* monogrammed sleep shirt - a lightweight yet cozy menswear inspired nightie...zzzzz

* any and all Ray-Ban sunnies

* the Twitter necklace by Survival of the Hippest - it's dope!

* CoverGirl Lash Blast Length - the yellow tube is a cinch to spot in an overcrowded makeup case and the formula does what the commercials claim...tip: take your time with the brush and really load on the coats

* circle scarves - certainly makes bundling up in this brutal weather a bit more stylish...really digging the lightweight knits from echo, available at Lord & Taylor or online...and more than likely on sale at this point (read: stock up for next year as we don't see this trend fading)

* Kerastase Elixir Ultime - nourishing hair oil that conditions, tames frizz and makes strands shimmer... the price might be a bit of a turnoff BUT just a half a pump is really all you need...

wardrobe of sunnies...

Sunglasses are a bit of an obsession at NWS HQ. The addition of a pair can really amp up an ensemble - not to mention hide under eye baggage and protect from the sun (duh). Thus, it's important one has an arsenal of options that compliment various looks. Search for styles that add the finishing touch - what Mrs. Beckham calls "that extra half inch."

Sporty styles such as metal aviators pair well with casual clothing as well as the hotrightnow military trend...but be careful not to get too costume-y!





Giant rounded frames, worn with tousled hair and a maxi skirt, can provide that boho, Olsen twin look in seconds flat.





Classic Ray-Ban Wayfarers in standard black are retro cool and the punchy color versions say hipster like nothing else (could be good or bad depending).




These rounded acetate frames we have now dubbed the "Elin" as she chose to hide herself from prying eyes with a similar pair over the last few months. Break them out next time your husband sleeps with a waffle house waitress.





Nothing beats a big ass pair of Jackie O style black shades. No girl should live without this staple that goes with any look, anywhere, at any time.
