f*** yeah!

inspiration, meNavigate with StyleComment
A great friend recently asked me an important question. My instant answer: f*** yeah! We had a good laugh and that was it...or so I thought.

This morning one of the first things I read was a tweet by Independent Fashion Bloggers that linked to an article written by Jeff Haden for Inc.

Last year I moved with my little family from Boston, Massachusetts to Fort Wayne, Indiana and a major lifestyle switch followed. As I left the big city and my management career behind me I decided to pursue writing full time - a decision that continues to make me extremely happy. Yet recently I've said yes to a few things when I probably shouldn't have and I don't want to lose the joy I've felt during this last year. From now on, if my answer to any given question isn't a hearty f*** yeah, it should be a no. I need to approach life with this mentality and I can't believe I didn't think of it myself.

While I'm not uptight about language I know it's not acceptable to use such a word in a professional setting. So going forward when I'm answering yes I'll just *think* f*** yeah! But if we're friends or if I've been drinking (and especially if both apply) prepare yourself for the f-bomb.

The Five 5.11

It was a very good week...

Most Talkative by Andy Cohen was released on Tuesday and I'm super excited to read it! I'm obsessed with all things Bravo and I loves me some Watch What Happens Live. Andy has been promoting his book which lead him to a fantastic appearance on the Howard Stern show...two of my favorites collide!!!

I'm a HUGE fan of Howard Stern and this week has been a big treat for Stern fans everywhere. His media tour to promote the new season of America's Got Talent has given us tons of great clips from talk shows like The View, Jimmy Fallon and The Today Show. I cannot wait to see Howard on AGT starting Monday, May 14th.

I try to avoid political topics on NWS but I'm strongly for gay marriage. I was extremely pleased with Obama's statement on the matter this week. Well done Mr. President.

For the last year I've been enjoying a reprieve from a nine to five job and I've loved nearly every minute of it. This week I did something I had never done before: I attended a weekday TinCaps baseball game at 11:05am! It was glorious and I felt so free...I won't forget that feeling anytime soon.

Last but not least: Mother's Day is this weekend and I want to give a hearty HOLLA to all the fantastic Moms I know. I've been "Mumma" for 4 years and it is NO JOKE. The extreme love I feel for my little guy coupled with the pressure of raising a happy, healthy and respectful child is the craziest combo but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

funky like penicillin...

I adopted this Beastie Boys lyric ages ago as my personal motto. It adorns my calling card as well as my living room in the form of this banner. I use it as my {casual} email signature, and I've ironed it onto a few t shirts. My love of Adidas track suits and shell toes come from my nearly life long love for the Beastie Boys. Never was there a trio of dudes as funky as Ad Rock, Mike D and MCA...Adam Yauch, you will be missed.

Earth Day 2012

In honor of Earth Day 2012 below are a few quick and easy ways to start greening your beauty & style routine:

* Buy shampoo & conditioner in "pro" sizes to cut down on the amount of plastic bottles you use. Aveda does a great job informing their clients of the cost savings and the environmental impact of this practice.
* Instead of bottled body wash use bar soap to cut down on packaging. I adore Beekman 1802 goat milk soaps.
* Be as vigilant about recycling your personal care bottles and jars as you are about your food and beverage packaging. Some brands offer an incentive for turning in old products. Kiehls & MAC have fab programs right now.
* Patronize socially conscious companies and buy from trusted stores and websites. For beauty products I look to Saffron Rouge & Whole Body at Whole Foods for their fantastic selection and high standards. As for clothing and accessories Eco Fashion World offers a list of ethical fashion brands.
* I try my very best to avoid plastic bags as much as possible so I always carry at least one reusable shopping bag with me. I am a HUGE fan of Baggu bags because they fold down into tidy, lightweight squares. I also love Envirosax and RuMe bags. All three companies offer multiple sizes in pretty colors and patterns, are easily washed and super durable.

Happy Earth Day!
