One of the hardest things to master is the art of self tanning.  NWS has tested quite a few formulations in our day and we've recently fallen in love with Bella Bronze Golden Chamomile & Goats Milk Sunless-Tanner for face and body.

summer hair...

'Tis the season for hair damage courtesy of sun, sea and pool.  Below, our no fail techniques for minimizing the mayhem!

1. Wet hair with clean water from a bottle prior to jumping in.  Your hair will absorb less of the damaging chlorinated or salt water this way.

2. Work conditioner or intensive masq into your hair, pull back into a bun or pony and leave it in while at the beach or pool.  This coating will protect hair as well as provide a thermal conditioning treatment!

3. Use products with UV filters, formulated specifically for summer hair care such as the Kerastase Soleil line or the Fredderik Fekkai Marine Summer Hair Collection.

4. Keep a plain white bucket hat in your handbag or beach bag.  You'll always be able to shield your hair and face from the damaging rays of the sun without clashing with your outfit.

5. Channel the bathing beauties from decades past with a stylish swim cap!  We love the Petal Swim Caps from Headcovers Unlimited or this black ruffled version on Amazon.

Flip Flops are an essential for easy summer style. But not all flips are created equal.

For the beach...
Rubber, with minimal embellishments are best - pick bright colors or patterns so you can spot them in the sand. Havaianas are favs but if you don't want to spend the money on "designer" flips go to Old Navy for a huge selection of colors at an incredible price (same ballpark as your daily latte).





For the city...
Beach flips get a makeover with crystals or in jelly form. Slightly upgraded and a tad less casual than their sandy counterparts, they're great for shopping and taking lunch al fresco.




For the evening...
With leather soles and metallic accents you can be just as comfy but a bit more appropriate for a casual night out. Be warned however, flips, no matter how expensive or sparkly or designer, may be frowned upon in finer establishments.




For work...
Unless you punch the clock in a crazy casual environment your flips will be a flop. Stick to sandals, espadrilles and ballet flats for the office.

it's sandal season...

...and that means ONE THING: pedicures are mandatory!

Whether you visit a spa or do it at home all sandal wearing ladies must have well groomed feet.

Take a few extra minutes to buff your heels while in the shower and moisturize after toweling off.


Select a foot balm without too much slip so you don't slide all over the place. Or moisturize right before bed for extra care.


Toes don't necessarily need to be polished but it's highly preferred. If nails are naked they must be snag free, evenly trimmed and buffed. Rub cuticle oil into your toes for a healthy sheen---polish or no polish.


Keep a small foot deodorizer in your handbag for a cool and refreshing pick me up or for quick odor elimination.


Please take care of your tootsies so the world does not have to view your ashy skin. No matter how lovely the sandal if your feet are less than your best the shoe won't matter.
