tools of the trade on INsight...
INsight, beauty, cosmetics, guide, me, organization, skincareComment
After quite a few years working with many talented hair stylists, makeup artists and estheticians I've come to understand the tools, not just the products, can be incredibly important elements of any beauty regime. Today on INsight I showed Emilie and Charity some key items that can make your daily routine a bit easier...click the links below:
The makeup brush cleanser I showed is by Beauty So Clean and my favorite foundation sponge is called the Beauty Blender.
The soft diffuser for the blow dryer is the Hot Sock and the super strong hair clips for sectioning are called Grip Clips.

Friday's Five Favorites...fash apps!
FFF, accessories, beauty, cosmetics, fashion, guide, hair, handbags, inspiration, shoes, shopping, skincare, techComment
Below are some my favorite fashion & beauty apps on the iPhone (thank you, Mr. Jobs):
StyleCaster - offers up outfit choices based on the temp outside as well as videos and related news
Sephora - literally all the major beauty brands at your fingertips and a ton of features
Fashion Network - gobs of runway shows to peruse...currently listing Fall/Winter 2011 rather than the shows that just wrapped for Spring/Summer which I think is rawwwther helpful as we're currently IN Fall/Winter, thankyouverymuch!
FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) - great resource for news and trends (MTV viewers might recall this is where Lauren Conrad takes classes in episodes of the Hills)
Total Beauty - product reviews, detailed information and purchasing options...BIG database
All the apps above are free so tap away and HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!

DIY spa recipes on #INsight...
DIY, INsight, Indiana, beauty, eco, fun and games, guide, me, media, skincareComment
Today on INsight I demonstrated my 3 favorite (and super easy) DIY spa recipes...click the links below to check them out. Fair warning: At one point I actually say, "just...ream it." Oy vey...
DIY Beauty Disasters - I have certainly had my fair share of bad DIY beauty experiments. I've put nearly everything you could think of on my hair, the worst being mayo...yuck! I stay away from at home treatments that involve chemicals and I like to keep the recipes on the simple side. It's not very relaxing to clean up a giant mess afterwards.
DIY Beauty Tips - I have used this recipe for body scrub for years and I swear by it. It is so effective but so much less expensive than store bought varieties. Plus, I love knowing that it's literally two organic ingredients - no dyes, no fragrance, no chemicals. For the face mask, I like to mash up the avocado before adding the honey - this gives you more control with the texture of the mask. The foot soak recipe is also really great for the whole body but use a full gallon of milk in your bathtub and eliminate the rocks/marbles (ouch).

the brush off...
beauty, skincareComment
I am a product junkie through and through and I'm always on the hunt for great new potions and tools. But I'm pretty skeptical when it comes to beauty appliances like zit zappers, at home hair removal lasers and electric skin brushes. I never stick to the suggested routine which means the gear just gathers dust in my bathroom.
I consistently read great product reviews for a well known skin care brush I once owned. I hated having to keep it charged and it took up valuable bathroom counter space. While the results were nice I achieve the same with a manual skin care brush from Sephora without the drain on my electricity. TIP: the best aspect of the electronic skin care brush is the timing function so be sure to use your manual brush for about 60 seconds for maximum effect.
Moral of the story: If you're thinking of shelling out over $100 for a skin care brush first try a $5 cheapie from your local beauty supply or drugstore.
